Head-Hugging Layers

These fantastic, bulk reducing layers make mid-length cuts edgier, piecier, and less bulky. Cut flat, in opposition to the head shape, this type of layering best suites thick or coarse straight hair, which can look heavy and lack movement. These layers work well on blunt or diffused shapes anywhere from jawline to collar bone.

HAIR EXTENSION 101

Ok.  We all know “long hair don’t care”.  And, we all know pretty much every single celeb with long, lucious locks is getting a little help from the “weave” department.  And,  some of us are even keen enough to figure out that the girl in front of you in line at Starbucks that has thick, wavy hair past her bra strap has some sort of super weave, too.  And, let’s admit it… we’ve all thought about getting hair extensions.  But what kind should you get?  How much are they going to cost?  Where should you go in Nashville to get them? Blah, Blah, Blah…
Well – here it is…  Hair Extension 101
There are tons of different ways to do hair extensions.. sew-ins, glue-ins, fusion, clip-ins, one-step wefts, micro-links, etc, etc, etc.  Not every method is right for every person.  That’s 1 of the main reasons why a consultation is so important.  Before you invest all your dollar$ on your weave, we need to talk.  Just to understand what your expectations are so that we can give you the most bangin’ “unbeweavable” weave of your life.
I have picked my 3 favorite methods – based on factors like longevity, comfort for the client, ease of maintenance and finished look – and that’s what we do.   Just these 3.  So let’s break it down…
1.  Clip-ins
Clip-ins are what we refer to as “temporary”  or “DIY” hair extensions.  The hair comes in wefts (horizontal rows of hair in varying widths and lengths) with small hair clips already sewn on one side.  You clip these in yourself whenever you want longer thicker hair and take them out before you go to bed. (listen… we know some of you sleep in them, but you shouldn’t! Tangles and breakage are not pretty!)  Wear them everyday, or just for special occasions or night’s out.  These are the simplest, and easiest form of hair extensions.  We color match you… you buy the set of hair from us… we show you how to put them in (we’ll even show you a few tricks of the trade to ensure you are clipping in like a pro)… you take them home and the rest is history.   For a lot of people, clip-in extensions are the gateway into the wonderful world of weave.   And like most other weave options, your own hair needs to be at least 5 -6 inches long in the crown area for these to blend realistically.
PROS – easy, very little to no damage to your natural hair, install/take-out whenever you want, least expensive extension option       CONS –  can feel heavy, are easily detected if not installed properly, require prep time everytime you want to wear them, styling options are limited
INVESTMENT – $250 and up +  The clip-in extensions that we sell are made from the highest quality 100% Human remy hair.  The price of clip-ins is determined by the length and color of the extension hair.  The longer and lighter in color the clip-in extensions are, then the more expensive they are.
2. Tape-in Extension
This method has become very popular over the last few years, and is ideal for the clip in extension veteran who finds herself wearing her clips everyday, and is tired of all that prep and installation.  This type of hair extension is ideal for adding length, density, and even color accents to your natural hair.  The extensions themselves come in 2.5 inch wide horizontal wefts that are very thin at the attachment point, making them virtually undetectable.  Instead of  clips, the wefts are fitted with a type of strong, waterproof double sided tape.  Small sections of your natural hair are sandwiched between 2 pieces of tape-in hair, and sealed resulting in a waterproof bond.  The resulting bond lasts for 4-6 weeks, depending on the texture of your natural hair, oiliness of your scalp, and how often you shampoo and style.   Maintenance appointments will need to be booked within the 4-6 week range, and involve your stylist removing all the extensions, applying new tape to the wefts, shampooing & blowdrying your natural hair, and reapplying the freshly taped extensions.  The hair extensions can be re-taped and re-applied up to 4 times before you need to buy new extensions.
PROS – virutally undetectable,  add length and density to your natural hair,  add highlights, lowlights, or candy colors without damaging your natural hair,
CONS –  fairly frequent maintenance appointments
INVESTMENT –   HAIR - $300 and up +  INSTALLATION – $250    MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS – $125 per hour / 1 hour minimum

3.   Cold Fusion Hair Extensions
Cold fusion hair extensions are small pieces of hair extensions that are applied to your natural hair using a “strand by strand” method. Small pieces of your hair are threaded through a very small silicone lined tube called a microlink along with a hair extension.  Pressure is then applied with a clamp to seal the microlink, bonding your natural hair and the hair extension together without the use of heat.   The average person will need approximately 150 fusion hair extensions for a full head application for adding length.  Fusion extensions can also be used for adding density or color accents.   Fusion extensions will need maintenance every 6-8weeks.  During a maintenance appointment each microlink is opened, and each hair extension is moved up closer to the scalp and reattached with a new microlink. Maintenance appointments are priced per hour, and typically last between 1-2 hours. Fusion hair extensions will last through 3-4 maintenance appointments before new hair needs to be purchased.
PROS – falls and moves just like your natural hair, unlimited styling options, no heat or adhesives, best for long term wear, perfect for adding length or density all over or just where needed
CONS – most expensive hair extension method, individual extensions can slip between maintenance appointments
INVESTMENT -  HAIR – $300 and up +    INSTALLATION – $600+      MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS – $150 per hour / 1 hour minimum

WHERE DOES THE HAIR COME FROM?
Hair extensions are purchased from a supplier based in Los Angeles that has been in business for 20+ years.  They supply movie studios, and hair extension specialists all over the world with the highest quality, ethically sourced hair extensions.  The hair itself comes from India and the Ukraine, and each strand is hand selected to ensure only the finest, healthiest strands are made into extensions.  The cuticles of each strand are aligned in the same direction resulting in “remy” hair to maximize durability and minimize tangling.  All of the hair extensions are available in a variety of colors and textures to ensure a perfect match to your natural hair.
So now you know more about the different types of hair extensions and what the starting prices are…
